Champion Modular Construction Solves Site Labor Issues for Remote Temporary Accommodation Facilities in Bull Arm, Newfoundland, Canada

Champion designed and built (4) three-story dormitory buildings containing over 400 sleeping units and nearly 75,000 sq. feet of floor space for delivery to Bull Arm, Newfoundland. Champion also provided nearly 30,000 sq. feet of common space complete with a commercial kitchen and recreation facilities. The modules were shipped to the site and assembled to provide accommodations for the personnel responsible for the design and construction of an offshore stand-alone gravity-based drilling platform.

PROJECT SCOPE
  • (4) three-story dorm buildings totaling over 400 sleeping units
  • (1) one-story kitchen/dining/recreation facility
CHALLENGE
The lack of available labor and a shortened building season in the remote regions of Newfoundland, Canada made site building virtually impossible.

SOLUTION

Champion teamed with modular provider Malthus Canada Ltd to design, construct, deliver, and install accommodation facilities for Exxon energy Services, thus minimizing the need for site labor. The modules were constructed in NY, placed on a barge in Albany, and transported to NL. The building was installed, energized and occupied within several weeks of delivery.
